Year 9 students and their families spent the evening at Lambeth Academy discussing GCSE subject options with heads of curriculum and other members of the teaching staff. The Main Hall was transformed into a subject fair with colourful boards laid out displaying samples of students’ work and headlines about what is covered in each area. Enthusiastic student ambassadors from Year 10 and upwards assisted teachers in promoting the different subject areas by explaining what they liked about the course and what they were learning. Sociology, Citizenship, RE, Drama, Music, PE, Health and Social Care, History, ICT and Art among others were all out in force while core subjects also had a good presence so parents have the opportunity to speak to staff about their child’s progress in STEMs. “It’s great to see our students being encouraged to take ownership of their choices because their results can have an impact on what they do later in life so we really want them to be part of the decision-making process” said Mr Tesfa Lowe, Head of Year 9.
