A network of support
Each key stage is overseen by an Assistant Headteacher. They have an overview of the students in their section and are responsible for their pastoral care and academic progress, supported by Heads of Years and Tutors. The pastoral system is overseen by The Deputy Headteacher.

To ensure consistency of care the student’s Form Tutor usually remains with them through each Key Stage, changing as the student moves up to the next Key Stage. Every Form Tutor is responsible for the supervision, guidance and care of the student in his/her tutor group. With an overview of the students in their form, both pastorally and academically, they are aware of individual circumstances and needs. They work to ensure that all students are as happy and successful as they can be.
We have a counsellor and mentors who are available to discuss any issues of concern. The opportunity to talk openly about anything that may be troubling a student helps them understand their feelings and build their self-confidence and self-esteem. Sometimes, we think that a student will benefit from having a Staff or Sixth Form Mentor who can give her/him individual help, for example with organisation or low confidence. The Pastoral Team around the student provides a far reaching and accessible network of support. With this wide network, we hope every student will feel able to talk with a trusted adult at school should they wish to.
At Lambeth Academy, our values underpin our ethos. We believe that we are here to shape the life chances of all our students in order that they are firmly placed to attend the best Universities or places of employment in the years to come.
We believe that the best qualities for our Academy are Character Education and Leadership. By adopting these attributes, we will provide opportunities at all levels for both students and staff to develop and apply their leadership skills. Our assemblies and activities foster the sense of community spirit we value.
The Student Leadership Structure brings together students of all ages and is an excellent opportunity for the development of leadership skills. The Head Girl and Head Boy and the two Deputies play a leadership role in the school. This includes running the School Council. The student’s views and opinions are often sought through informal conversations and more formal meetings and written feedback. Sixth Form Prefects support the students in younger years whilst a number of students are involved in peer mentoring.
Our spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) and Democratic Values programme is designed to help students develop wide reaching skills including empathy, compassion, assertiveness, self-esteem, mental and physical wellbeing. It improves our students’ understanding of themselves and each other, clarifying their thoughts and feelings. From Year 7 all the way through to the Sixth Form, students are encouraged to become outward looking, thoughtful, cheerful and resilient young adults.
