Uniform

Lambeth Academy Students in Uniform

We encourage all of our students to take pride in their uniform and to have a high standard of personal appearance. We also encourage them to take responsibility for their own appearance.

They should always help to create a positive first impression of the academy both within and outside the school.

We believe that our uniform is smart and practical to wear and we will always endeavour to provide the best value for money.

Your support as parents / carers is critical in enabling us to uphold the policy consistently and effectively to ensure the highest standards.

School Uniform

The following items are compulsory. Those marked with * must be purchased from our uniform supplier. Other items may be purchased from our uniform supplier but do not have to be:

  • Lambeth Academy Blazer * (a tailored one is available for girls should you wish)
  • Pale blue high-necked shirt with Lambeth Academy tie* or
  • Pale blue open-necked blouse (not to be worn with a tie)
  • Black school trousers or skirt which must be at least knee length. These should be tailored and formal. No denim or jean / cargo style trousers may be worn
  • Black or white ankle or knee length socks or black tights. Tights should be plain
  • Plain black low heeled shoes. Lace up shoes must have dark laces. No trainers or high heels. Boots may be worn to school when the weather is poor but students will be expected to change into shoes once they are in the building.
  • A strong school bag which is larger than A4 in size

School Footwear

To maintain our high standards of uniform, we will continue to focus on the importance of wearing the correct footwear at all times.

Uniform helps young people get used to dressing to a prescribed standard. It also helps them know the difference between formal and informal dress. The smarter you feel the more you believe you can achieve. Wearing a uniform signals that you are ready to work.

Boys:   Polishable low heeled black shoes (no trainers or boots)
Girls:   Polishable low heeled black shoes (no trainers, boots, platforms or sling-backs)

Shoes are to be plain black, polishable, flat soled or with a small heel and have no trim and are not branded ie. have no logos on them (even a black Nike tick, or Vans logo is not acceptable). Contrast coloured laces and trainer or casual styles are not permitted. We have included (above) photos of suitable shoe styles in order to help with your shopping.

The following ‘Vans’ styles are  not appropriate, including the leather look version:

Please Note

  • Any student who arrives in non-uniform should expect to be sent home or to have items confiscated if it is appropriate to do so. Parents/carers may write a note requesting permission for their son/daughter to be excused uniform for a specific length of time and for a valid reason. However the final decision rests with the principal.
  • We strongly advise that you label all items of uniform and personal possessions.
  • Head scarves and hair bands should be plain navy blue or black.
  • Ties must be worn correctly fastened at all times, in a tight knot and at full length.
  • Ties may only be worn with a high-necked shirt and not with the open-necked blouse.
  • The only jewellery that is allowed is a pair of small plain ear studs – one in each ear – and a watch. No facial piercings are allowed. Rings, bracelets and visible necklaces are not permitted.
  • Make up should be discrete and students will be asked to remove any which is not.
  • Nail varnish should not be worn and students will be asked to remove it if it is. False nails should be of a reasonable and safe length and should not be painted or decorated.
  • Mobile telephones should not be seen or heard and headphones may only be used to listen to music at break and lunchtimes. At all other times they should be out of sight. If this is not adhered to the mobile telephone may be confiscated until the end of the day. If this becomes persistent for a student, the mobile phone will be confiscated until the end of the week.
  • Chewing gum should not be eaten at the academy. A student who is chewing gum will be asked to remove it.
  • Coats, scarves and hats are not to be worn in the building at any time. We encourage students to put them into their lockers at the start of the day. A student who persistently wears these in the building may have them confiscated until the end of the day.
  • Blazers must be worn at all times except for during lessons, where they may be placed on the back of a chair.
  • We will always encourage our students to express their individuality but recognise that we must not lose sight of what is acceptable in the ‘world of work’. To do so would not help them to prepare for later life. Hair colour, therefore, must be within the natural spectrum of colour (i.e. bright colours and anything which is not within the natural spectrum will not be allowed). Hair styles should be those which would be acceptable at work. We strongly advise that if you are unsure in this area you check with the Principal before making any decisions. Any student who does not follow this policy runs the risk of being excluded from school until the situation can be rectified. This is not something we would want to do and can be completely avoided by having open communication between school and home. However, it is important that we are consistent and fair in our approach to all students.
