At Lambeth Academy, we believe that home learning equips students with the skills to study and learn independently, enabling them to take greater ownership of their own learning. In enhancing these skills from year 7, students become more greatly prepared for study at key stage 4 and beyond. Importantly, regular homework also helps students to reinforce their learning from lessons and prepare them for future lessons.
All students receive a range of homework activities every day and the homework schedule to know how much time students should approximately be spending per subject each night. Full details of these may be found on our curriculum pages. All homework should be written in student planners, where appropriate, and will be collected on the day it is due in to be marked and returned within two weeks.
Supporting your child with homework
Set-up a friendly working environment at home. This may be a well-lit and quiet space to complete homework.
Check that your child has a reading book. All students should be reading for at least twenty minutes per day.
Minimise any distractions that may prevent your child from completing their homework. This may include lengthy phone calls, a loud television set or loud music playing.
Help your child with their time management by establishing a regular time for them to complete homework.Remember to praise them for all of their hard work once completed.
Check your child’s planner on a weekly basis for any updates with homework. This will help to keep you informed of set assignments.
If you have questions about homework across several subjects, contact your son/daughter's tutor. If you have a question about homework in a particular subject, contact the subject leader.
Homework Club runs every Wednesday after school, from 3.30pm to 4.40pm, in the Learning Resource Centre (library). All students are able to work alongside staff to receive support and clarification regarding any aspect of their set assignments. The LRC is provides an ideal learning space where students may work in a happy and suitable learning environment and have access to resources and ICT facilities to help them complete their homework successfully.
