Jan Shadick

Jan Shadick is currently the Executive Principal at Lambeth Academy, an inner London 11-18 secondary school which serves the diverse community of Lambeth.  This is a role she has held for almost 3 years. Jan has over ten years’ experience of headship, having been the Head Teacher of Headlands Schools, in Swindon, which became Swindon Academy – the first 0 – 19 Academy in the country.  Prior to this Jan has been a senior leader in schools within the London Boroughs of Bromley and Tower Hamlets.

She holds a BA (Jt Hons) degree in Education from the University of Warwick – specialising in Physical Education and History - and an MA (Distinction) from the University of London. She also has the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).  Jan is also qualified as a facilitator for the National College Leadership programmes – NPOQH, NPQSL and NPQML. Jan is currently training for the Professional Qualification for School Inspection (PQSI) with Ofsted.

Jan has a keen interest in leadership and is a trained facilitator for United Learning to deliver its very popular leadership residential for senior and middle leaders. She believes that the single most important factor in the success or failure of schools is leadership.

Jan is also a Governor of the local Pupil Referral Unit and a trustee of Caterham High School. In 2012 she was invited to be a trustee of the charity 21st Century Legacy which develops the coaching programme ‘Be The Best You Can Be’.


Carol Shepherd

Ms Carol Shepherd is currently the Headteacher at Lambeth Academy a local 11-18 secondary school with a diverse community.  Ms Shepherd has 17 years experience in education previously working in industry in human resources.  She holds the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH), a BA (Hons) degree in Sociology, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) and is a trained facilitator for the National College Leadership programmes – NPQSL and NPQML.

Ms Shepherd has considerable experience of school improvement around the quality of teaching and in the curriculum.  Ms Shepherd has had demonstrably raised the quality of teaching over her time at the school and has also redesigned the Academy curriculum in its entirety and prepared for Ofsted under the new framework; results in the curriculum areas she has led, such as Maths, has risen and the work she has done around the curriculum has ensured strong outcomes for students. 

Ms Shepherd is also governor of a local primary school running an innovative bilingual stream. 



Nick Heard

Nick Heard is Vice Principal – Achievement at Lambeth Academy, an inner London 11-18 secondary school which serves the diverse community of Lambeth.  This is a role he has held for almost 2 years. Nick is currently responsible for all aspects of student achievement; data, assessment and reporting; the pastoral systems, behaviour and safety; Safeguarding and Child Protection and Inclusion.

Nick holds an MA in Education – School Improvement and Change Management and a BSc (Sport Science with English), both from St Mary’s University. Nick is also qualified as a facilitator for the National College Leadership programmes – NPQSL and NPQML. Nick is nearing completion of his OFSTED Training to become an Additional OFSTED Inspector and is hoping to complete his NPQH in the future.

Nick has previously worked in a variety of secondary leadership roles, previously responsible for Learning & Teaching which he lead to ‘outstanding’ in 2013. Nick is passionate about enabling all students and colleagues to ask ‘how can we do it better’ and asks colleagues to be ‘relentlessly optimistic’ for the outcomes of the young people we teach.
