International Policy

INTERNATIONAL POLICY FOR LAMBETH ACADEMY
The students at Lambeth Academy recognise their involvements and responsibilities as citizens of the global community whilst critically examining their own principles and attitudes.

We embrace this global dimension and will appreciate the similarities between people all over the world and at the same time celebrate the diversity within.

The Academy curriculum will be based around the rich and varied cultural heritage and ethnic diversity which we hold in our own community and the outside world and it will place an emphasis on both gender and racial equality. This is mirrored directly in our existing school motto “The best in everyone”.

As a priority the global dimension should be reflected in the day to day attitudes and values of our students, the ethos of the school, and it should be embedded in the short term planning of all curriculum areas.

The Lambeth Academy International Policy will thereby demonstrate the commitment, dedication and support of the school management, governors, staff and parents for the worldwide dimension.

Aims
We will:

  • We will:promote the study of more than one foreign language for all our students by offering a range of appropriate language options and by showing our own strong belief in the value of these languages and their cultural concept behind them. We will honor the multicultural traditions and beliefs represented in our school, local and national communities.
  • establish and engage in regular communication with students and adults living in other countries to cultivate and fully develop partnerships worldwide. This will be done by:
  • greeting schools worldwide on the global gateway
  • letter writing, emailing and video conferencing with pupils elsewhere
  • interacting with visitors from other countries
  • visits to places of cultural interest in the UK and abroad
  • student exchanges and foreign work experience placements
  • teacher exchanges amongst partner schools
  • help pupils understand complex international interdependencies in the global economy and invite outside agencies to facilitate this

Objectives

  • To work towards achieving and then maintaining the International School Award
  • To identify the range of international activities which are currently taking place in Lambeth Academy by doing annual audits. These audits in all departments will then inform the international action plan and its implementation into the SIP
  • To engage our whole school community in the process of self evaluation on internationalism in order to improve the provision of the global aspect of our teaching and learning
