Academy Specialisms

Enterprise as a specialism at Lambeth Academy is growing. Students develop the key-skills that are synonymous with the idea of enterprise in education…independence, problem solving, team work, determination and resilience, creativity and commitment.

We  have delivered ‘Skills and Concepts’ on the topic of Enterprise, Business and Finance, 1 hour per week, to younger students. This has provided the students with much needed skills, and a clear and concise understanding of the concepts of enterprise and the role of business within society.

In collaboration with industry we have run ‘Career Academy Project’, where a group of Year 12 & 13 students receive an 18 month program of focused work experience. This has involved the help and support of London businesses, and culminates in a group of lucky students completing a 6 week paid internship at a fantastic company in London. Examples of internships in 2010 are MAN Group, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, Lovefilm and Diageo.

We also run annual events which are planned and delivered to have a whole-school impact. Delivered every year since 2007, these events give students the opportunity to demonstrate and develop these “enterprise skills”, and help the school to celebrate an area in which its students excel.

An area that Lambeth Academy is keen to develop over the next 3 years is the idea of ‘capable learners’ and, their employability. As the specialism of the school, it is imperative that Business & Enterprise makes a clear and long-lasting contribution to this initiative.

The re-structure of the department and the expansion of our team will allow us to work even harder at this facet of the school from 2010 onwards, with a particular focus employability. More events will be delivered, and students will be given more opportunities to develop and demonstrate their employability both inside and outside of the classroom. Students will be able to track the development of their skills, and will be accredited for the work they have done to achieve this goal. Our new Enterprise Co-ordinator will be working with our existing supporting business, and expanding the pool, to ensure an even greater level of employer engagement for the younger siblings of our current students, and a clearer idea of career paths.

The aim to make our students more capable and more employable is one that will require hard work and innovation across the school. As a specialism, Business & Enterprise will be helping to drive students towards whatever ambition they may have.
