Design Technology and Engineering Department
1st Prize for Solar Car Challenge 2011

In our second year participating in the competition - Solar Car Challenge organized by the London Engineering Project and the London South Bank University – Lambeth Academy was represented by the car “L.A. Fire” which won the 1st prize.
This year we had 14 schools from South London competing against each other.
Congratulations to the team: Ellie Ganpot and Chloe Ganpot, Jose Michael Mendes and Samuel Atunrase participants of the Engineering Club run by Mr Picca for winning the trophy.
It was a long day and the weather forecast was cloudy meaning that we could have problems with the solar cells not being able to charge the batteries that powered the car – other participants were equipped with torches to charge the batteries artificially but we used every bit of solar rays and managed to have the necessary power to keep our car in the front.

The big final stretch was against the Charter School the favourites and the winners from the previous year.
Thanks to the parents that came to the event and supported the team on the day.
