5th Annual International Youth Conference

Lambeth Academy successfully hosted the 5th Annual International Youth Conference on 23rd September. Our 6th form students were joined by students from Epsom College and our German Partner school. The topics of the conference were ‘The London Summer Disturbances’ and ‘9/11= ten years after’.
We were delighted that we were able to invite a US diplomat to the event.  Rachel L. Meyers, Political Officer with the Department of State, addressed the conference and talked about ‘9/11 – ten years after’. She then worked with individual student groups allowing them to ask questions or generally bounce back ideas with her. It was a  great opportunity for the students to engage with the special guest. Towards the end all the groups had to present their findings to the floor and it was evident that interesting discussions had gone on. The conference was linked in with the Olympic values as overarching values of peace and global understanding and the results of the plenary showed how deeply the students had embraced these values in their discussions.
The US Diplomat liked the work at Lambeth Academy and has offered to come back for similar events in the future. The follow up from this conference now is to cut and edit the video footage of the student discussions to then send this to our other partner schools and ask them for feedback.
