At Lambeth Academy, our aim is to provide an excellent education. We have designed a curriculum which provides our students with the core knowledge they need for success in education and later life, maximises their cognitive development, develops the whole person and the talents of the individual and allows all children to become active citizens and economically self-sufficient.
We seek to foster a love of learning, bringing out ‘the best in everyone’, whatever their background or starting points.
Our curriculum sets out the specific knowledge that students will acquire in each subject and at each stage of their learning. The knowledge has been carefully sequenced to ensure that mastery can be achieved in each subject. The curriculum for each subject is set out on the 7-year curriculum maps (currently being updated, to be posted shortly).
We place great emphasis on developing students’ long-term memory, through expert led instruction, extended and independent deliberate practice, skilful formative assessment and regular spaced retrieval (revisiting prior learning). Students are guided through their learning journey by teachers explicitly sharing learning objectives and linking current learning to past and future learning.
Our curriculum is all encompassing and resonates far beyond the classroom. Our pastoral and extra-curricular programme aims to develop compelling individuals through a range of additional experiences such as inspirational speakers, educational trips, careers advice as well as a host of opportunities to engage in sports, culture and the arts.
Our formative assessments are designed to support students in achieving fluency in each subject.
To ensure that all students achieve mastery in the specified knowledge outlined in our curriculum, regular formative assessment guides responsive teaching. Summative assessment allows gaps to be closed through timely re-teaching of specific knowledge. Our assessment is used to evaluate the strength of the curriculum as students progress towards mastery.
