Our Curriculum

At Lambeth Academy our curriculum is academic, rigorous and challenging.  It is designed with long-term memory in mind.  It provides students with skills and experiences which develop character, in preparation for life beyond school.

Intent

Our aim is to deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that is cohesive, cumulative and highly sequencedIt is academic, rigorous and challenging, and designed with long-term memory in mind.  We make it our mission to foster a love of learning, brinigng out 'the best in everyone', whatever their background or starting point.

Our ambition is to provide children with the experiences and skills they need for success in education and later life, maximising their ability to think and act independently, developing character and the talents of the individual, whilst ensuring that all children are capable of benefiting from and contributing to society when they leave Lambeth Academy.

Implementation

Our curriculum sets out the specific knowledge that students will acquire in each subject and at each stage of their learning journey. The knowledge has been carefully sequenced to ensure that mastery can be achieved in each subject.

We place great emphasis on developing students’ long-term memory, through expert led instruction, extended and independent deliberate practice, skilful formative assessment and regular spaced retrieval (revisiting prior learning). Students are guided through their learning journey by teachers explicitly sharing learning objectives and linking current learning to past and future learning.

Our curriculum is all encompassing and resonates far beyond the classroom. Our pastoral and extra-curricular programme aims to develop compelling individuals through a range of additional experiences such as inspirational speakers, educational trips, careers advice as well as a host of opportunities to engage in sports, culture and the arts.

Impact

To ensure that all students achieve mastery in the specified knowledge outlined in our curriculum, regular formative assessment guides responsive teaching. Summative assessment allows gaps to be closed through timely re-teaching of specific knowledge. Our assessmentdata is used to evaluate the strength of the curriculum as students progress towards mastery, and allows for an opportunity to adapt the curriculum for the needs of our learners.
