What We Offer
MEP ( Mandarin Excellence Programme)
Lambeth Academy has participated in the MEP since 2017. This programme encompasses intensive learning in Year 8 which culminates with a trip to China in the summer. The programme also offers Year 9 students early experience of university life. This opportunity takes place at Nottingham University in the summer term of Year 9. Students spend a residential week at the University and get a real feel for campus life. In Year 10, Chinese students will take an HSK, which is a Chinese language proficiency test here in school.

Confucius Classroom
Year 7 Chinese students have the opportunity to take part in our Confucius Classroom which provides more in-depth exploration of Chinese culture. We offer a Chinese martial arts club run by a professional martial artist. Hanban teachers are also available to provide individual speaking practice across Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. Our Hanban teachers also run a Chinese drawing club during lunchtime. We organise a trip for Year 7 to Year 13 Chinese students to Chinatown where they eat in a restaurant and use the target language to order their food. We also offer trips to view Chinese art in the V&A museum and to hear Chinese music at local venues.
In the Sixth Form, Chinese students are encouraged to visit local primary schools to act as teaching assistants to Year 4 and Year 5 pupils who are learning Chinese. This is valuable work experience and an opportunity for them to put their language learning to positive use.

Chinese Super-curricular
In Year 12, we offer HSK (the Chinese proficiency exam) to our Chinese students. If they pass this exam and achieve Level 3, they could apply for a full scholarship to do a gap year in China at a prestigious university where they will be able to do undergraduate courses.
