Almost 2,000 schools, colleges and youth organisations throughout London and Essex run the scheme, which contributes millions of pounds each year. The scheme is a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people as well as receive additional funding.
The Jack Petchey award will be given out once a month for six months and is judged each month on different categories. The winner receives a grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation, to spend £200 on something of their choice that will benefit students at Lambeth Academy. These are some suggestions from the Jack Petchey Foundation:
- Buying equipment for a specific activity, e.g. Art materials, table tennis table, digital camera
- Hiring in a specialist worker for a session, e.g. theatre artist, fitness coach, guest speaker
- Arranging a special trip for the group, e.g day out, museum visit, bowling, theatre, cinema
